POPI Course

The main purpose of the POPI Act (POPIA) is to give effect to section 14 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, which makes provision for the right to privacy.

POPIA imposes an obligation on a responsible party (in other words, the party who holds another’s personal information) to put measures in place to:

  • Safeguard personal information when it is processed by a responsible party,
  • Regulate the use of personal information and how the different parties in a relationship will have to comply with these measures.

Various sections of POPIA  have come into effect over the past couple of years. However, the most crucial sections, which deal with the processing of personal information, come into effect on 1 July 2020, leaving businesses with an urgent obligation to meet this deadline.

It is crucial for every individual who processes personal information in an organisation to be aware of, and understand, the requirements of POPIA.

The aim of this introductory POPI Training Course is to establish and/or raise awareness about POPIA, to assist your employees in understanding its impact on your organisation and to apply this knowledge in a practical and effective way.
